What is the stability situation?
It seems like we hit this wall every decade. Our LIMS goes outdated along with some of the associated systems. In choosing the next generation, we hope that the data and studies in progress can be dragged into the new system, but there’s always a limitation in format and flexibility. It’s never very practical to manually re-enter everything from the old system. We can leave off of one and carry on in the other, but then every study finishes with reports comprised of Part A and Part B, which don’t closely align in style or format. Another option is to finish all old system studies over a 3-5 year period while going forward with all new studies in the new system; a less ugly option, but still with visible differences in reports and using critical resources in maintaining an outdated program and training people to operate it. We’re now tasked with choosing one of these options or working to find or develop a system that finally makes the technical leap of pulling all data forward. All options carry a cost, but can we show that this last quest may be worth the expense?
